I was wondering if there is a way to convert them to a file that will work on my kindle like a .doc or a .txt? i dont know much about doing this sort of stuff so i need it to be simple! thanks
I tried the thing karl b recommended but after it converts it to a new file the text is all garbled and symbols! ugh im so lost!

When I try to open a .doc file, it gives me “… not a valid Win 32 application” error. When I try to change the file association under properties, I cant find the right Word program. When I save a word 2007 file (.docx) it says it opens with “Microsoft Office Word”. But when I save a .doc file, it says it opens with “2007 Microsoft Office component” which has the word icon. I can’t find the same one that the .docx file uses anywhere.
I also wanted to add that I can still open these files by opening up Microsoft Word separately, but not by opening through an internet file or directly through double clicking the document.

At Elmwood we have Word 2007 running on our Windows PCs and Word 2008 on our new MacBooks. Unfortunately Microsoft has decided to change the file format for the latest version. When you save a Word document in these new versions by default it will try save as a .docx file. These files can only be opened by people who also have the newest version of word at home. Luckily its pretty easy to save your Word documents in the old .doc file format.

Can someone please tell me how to set Word 2010 as the default program for opening .doc and .docx files? Word no longer appears in the list of programs for right click-> open with and the shortcut link to word points to “Virtualization Handler\CVH.EXE”, which doesn’t work.
