How would I open a file with a DOCX extension without Microsoft Word?

My university uses Microsoft Office 2007 on all of their public computers. I know there is a Microsoft “Compatibility” program that will allow older versions of Office open the new files, however, at home I do not have any type of Microsoft Office application. Is there any sort of basic, standalone viewer for a DOCX file?
