Every time I open a program/ file on the Internet it opens in word. I need to open it in something different

I somehow made my comp. open files from the internet in word. This causes a problem when I click on any thing on the internet it will open in word. Therefor I can not read it. Example – If I am reading on line and it has an Icon for me to click on (like adobe) it opens in word and says a bunch of jibberish, How do I fix it back to open right there on the internet?
